Finally, after all the preparation, let us explore the actual process of growing herbs in a jar full of water.

There are several simple steps to follow here, in order for you to do this successfully.

So bear with me and let’s get on with it.

1. Sanitizing the tools

The very first things you need to do is the have your tools prepared.

You need to sanitize all tools you are going to use.

That includes jars, knife, and scissors.

In order to do that, you should use warm soapy water and rubbing alcohol after it, and clean all the tools I mentioned.

That way, you can be sure that it is safe to touch the herb without causing any troubles for it in the future.

2. Prepare the cutting

Before you put the cutting in water, you need to prepare it properly.

First, take clean scissors or a knife and cut the stem to take a cutting which is around 4-6 inches long.

Make your cut angled and do it on a part of the stem where the leaves are supposed to grow.

However, if you got your cutting from the market, you can cut it at the bottom.

One thing to note here is that you should take a couple of cuttings, in case one of them succumb to rot.

After you have done this, you should remove all the leaves from the lower half of the stem.

It is usually done so the leaves wouldn’t get into the water and rot, which would not just destroy leaves, but would also contaminate water and possibly hurt the plant itself.

Now you are ready to put the cutting in water, but do it so that remaining leaves have enough space between them and water.

3. Regularly change the water

After your plant is in water and ready to grow, your job is not quite done yet.

You need to change the water regularly, for example, every 2 or 3 days so it would stay clean.

That would give the plant a much better chance of excellent growth.

4. Wait until roots grow

Now, it just takes a little time for you to wait until your plant starts growing.

The first step is to wait until roots grow, which, depending on the type of the plant, could take from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

So you have to be patient.

Once roots grow, you may need to move your plant to a bigger jar or container, or in case you have a garden, you can move it there if you want.

5. Make roots stronger

If you choose to move your plant to garden, you may want to make your roots a bit stronger first.

In order to do that, you should drop a couple of smaller pebbles onto the roots for a couple of days.

6. Transplant the herb if needed

If your plant becomes too big for a water container or a jar, you will want to move it to the pot or garden.
